This year Falls Church High
School welcomes three new administrators,
one being the new principal, to our
family. The Jagwire asked them all a few
questions to get to know them all better.
We are glad to welcome our new principal
Dr. Ben Nowak. His most recent job was
being the assistant principal at McLean
High School, a job in which he served
since 2012. Before working at McLean, he
was a high school science teacher and science
resource teacher with FCPS from 2009-2012.
For the 10 years prior to 2009, Dr. Nowak was
a member of the faculty at a number of different
FCPS schools, a tenure that included
service as the Science Department chair at
Centreville High School.
In order to ascend to the high leadership
role of being a school principal, Dr.
Nowak had to earn three college degrees. He                                                                                                                        earned his Bachelors of Science in Geology at James Madison
University, then he completed a Master’s of Education with
a concentration in Secondary Education Curriculum and
Instruction at George Mason University. Most recently, he
capped off his academic degrees with a Ph.D. in Educational
Leadership and Policy Studies at Virginia Tech.
Mr. Lake, our assistant principal and administrator,
was born in Chile but was raised here in Fairfax County. He
earned his degree at George Mason University, and began his
teaching career 21 years ago. Before he taught at our school
he taught math at Edison High School for 15 years and was also their assistant principal.                                                                                                                                                                                                             Our other new administrator is Mr. McGreevy. Mr.
McGreevy was born in Logan, Ohio. He got his undergrad
degree from the University of Toledo and his master’s from
Ohio University. Mr. McGreevy was an administrator first
at T.C. Williams High School and also at George Washington
Middle School in Alexandria City. Mr. McGreevy misses
Ohio a lot, since he grew up in a small town, but he doesn’t
mind living here. He thinks of Fairfax as a bigger city but
just as roomy as his hometown, and that it gives him a more
comfortable and homesick feel.
During his free time, Mr. McGreevy likes to play
sports, preferably running. He also likes to cook a lot and
spend some time off with his family. “I am very excited to
be here at Falls Church this year. I heard exceptional things
about not only the school, but great things about the staff and
students as well. I’m happy to say that, for the short time I
have been here, I agree with what the rumors have to say.”
